Apple Watch reminders can be useful until they interrupt a meeting, buzz during sleep, or keep pushing goals you don’t care about. The good news is that Apple gives you fairly precise controls, even if they’re scattered across several menus.

You can silence stand reminders, Mindfulness prompts, Activity coaching, and individual app notifications without disabling heart-rate monitoring or workout tracking. Start cautiously by turning off the worst offender. You can always trim more alerts later.

Turn Off Stand Reminders

The “Time to stand!” alert appears when you’ve been inactive during the first 50 minutes of an hour. Turning it off doesn’t affect your Stand ring, workouts, heart-rate readings, or other health data.

On Your iPhone

  1. Open the Watch app.
  2. Select the My Watch tab.
  3. Tap Activity.
  4. Turn off Stand Reminders.

Watch app > My Watch > Activity with Stand Reminders highlighted and toggled off

This is the cleanest fix if you want to keep Activity notifications but can live without the hourly nudge. So far, so good: the watch will continue recording when you stand on your own.

On Your Apple Watch

  1. Press the Digital Crown and open Settings.
  2. Tap Activity.
  3. Turn off Stand Reminders.

Both methods change the same setting, so you only need to use one.

Reduce Other Activity Alerts

Apple’s coaching can become noisy when you already have an exercise routine. In the iPhone’s Watch app, open My Watch > Activity, then review the available notification controls.

Depending on your current watchOS version, you may see controls for:

  • Daily Coaching, which sends progress updates and suggestions.
  • Goal Completions, which announces completed Move, Exercise, and Stand goals.
  • Special Challenges, which covers limited-time awards and achievements.
  • Activity Sharing Notifications, which reports activity from people who share data with you.

Turn off the categories you don’t value. I’d keep goal completions enabled if closing your rings motivates you, but Daily Coaching is an easy cut when the reminders feel repetitive.

Turn Off Mindfulness Reminders

The Mindfulness app provides Breathe and Reflect sessions. Its scheduled prompts are optional, and disabling them doesn’t remove the app.

Disable Mindfulness Notifications on Your iPhone

  1. Open the Watch app.
  2. Go to My Watch > Mindfulness.
  3. Select Notifications Off to block all Mindfulness notifications.

If you still want occasional prompts, keep notifications enabled and switch off individual scheduled reminders instead. You can also disable the weekly summary.

Adjust Mindfulness Reminders on Apple Watch

  1. Open Settings on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Mindfulness.
  3. Under Reminders, turn off Start of Day and End of Day.
  4. Remove any custom reminders you no longer want.
  5. Turn off Weekly Summary if you don’t need the report.

Choose Mute for Today when you need one quiet day without changing your regular schedule. It’s a promising middle ground if you like Breathe or Reflect sessions but don’t want a permanent prompt.

Mindfulness settings also let you adjust haptic intensity and breathing pace. Reducing the haptics can make sessions less distracting while preserving the guidance.

Silence Notifications From Other Apps

Apple Watch usually mirrors notification choices from your paired iPhone, although some apps provide custom Watch controls.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Select My Watch > Notifications.
  3. Tap an app with dedicated controls, then choose Allow Notifications, Send to Notification Center, or Notifications Off.
  4. For apps listed under the mirroring section, turn off the switch beside any app that shouldn’t notify your watch.

Send to Notification Center is useful when you want alerts available without a sound or wrist tap. Notifications Off blocks them from the watch entirely.

Third-party apps may offer only a mirror switch instead of separate delivery choices. That limitation comes from the app’s notification support, not a missing Watch setting.

Stop Alerts During Sleep

Use Sleep Focus when you want a scheduled quiet period for calls, messages, and app notifications. Configure it on your iPhone under Settings > Focus > Sleep, then confirm that Focus sharing is enabled for your Apple Watch.

Stand reminders can still be bothersome if your schedule or sleep tracking isn’t behaving as expected. Turning off Stand Reminders under Activity is the dependable fix for those alerts.

Lowering your daily Stand goal can also reduce pressure while preserving some movement tracking. Apple doesn’t provide detailed scheduling or intervals such as a reminder every 20 minutes, which feels unnecessarily restrictive.

If Apple Watch Notifications Stop Appearing

If you’ve silenced too much and useful alerts disappear, check these settings:

  1. Open Control Center on Apple Watch and confirm that Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb, Sleep Focus, or Theater Mode isn’t suppressing alerts.
  2. Check that your Apple Watch remains connected to its paired iPhone or Wi-Fi.
  3. Open the iPhone’s Watch app > My Watch > Notifications, then verify the affected app’s settings.
  4. Restart both the Apple Watch and iPhone if the settings look correct but alerts still don’t arrive.

Remember that notifications normally appear on either your iPhone or Apple Watch based on device state, rather than alerting both devices every time. An unlocked iPhone usually receives the notification instead of the watch.

Keep the Alerts That Earn Their Place

Apple’s alert controls work as expected once you’ve found the right menus. Stand reminders, coaching, and Mindfulness prompts can all be disabled independently, so you don’t have to sacrifice health tracking for a quieter wrist.

Start with Stand Reminders and Daily Coaching, then leave the setup alone for a day or two. If the watch feels calmer without becoming less useful, you’ve found a solid balance. Mindfulness reminders are also worth trying with Mute for Today before turning them off permanently.
