On October 26, 2026, Apple released iOS 27.2 for iPhone. It brings Siri AI, Apple’s redesigned assistant built on Apple Intelligence, to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Until now, Siri AI was available only in English, even though Apple Intelligence as a whole already supported more languages. Apple announced the change in its official newsroom post. Apple says four more languages (Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese) are coming by the end of the year, without giving an exact date.

The short answer: If you have an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 or later, and both Siri and your device language are set to one of those five languages, iOS 27.2 turns on Siri AI for you.

Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, regardless of language or device model. Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, also aren’t available in mainland China while Apple works through regulatory requirements there.

Exact availability can vary by platform, region, language, and Apple Account settings, so check Apple’s official feature availability page for your situation. Sources cited below were retrieved October 27, 2026.

What Happened

Apple shipped some things this week and only promised others. Headline-only coverage tends to blur the two, so we’ve split them up.

What shipped on October 26, 2026

  • iOS 27.2 is out now as a free update for compatible iPhones (MacRumors). Apple sent a release candidate to testers a week earlier, on October 19 (MacRumors).
  • Siri AI now supports five more languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish (Apple Newsroom).
  • Smaller Siri AI refinements. Coverage of the release also mentions assorted under-the-hood changes to how Siri AI works (9to5Mac, MacRumors). Our sources didn’t break these down in detail. Think of them as tune-ups rather than headline features.

What’s announced but not shipped

  • Four more languages are planned: Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese (MacRumors, 9to5Mac).
  • There’s no exact release date yet. Apple’s newsroom post says “by the end of the year,” but it doesn’t give a date or say which iOS version will include these languages.

How this differs from Apple’s original rollout

Siri AI itself isn’t new. Apple first announced Siri AI in June 2026, then shipped it, in English only, with iOS 27 as part of a September 2026 platform update. That version added the core features:

  • Personal context. Siri AI can search your messages, emails, and photos to answer questions, like what a family member suggested doing during a visit.
  • Natural multi-turn conversations. You can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself.
  • Systemwide app actions. Siri AI can handle multi-step tasks across apps, like drafting an email from scratch or editing and sharing a set of photos.

iOS 27.2 doesn’t reinvent any of that. Its headline change is letting more people use those features in their own language.

One clarification: Siri AI was initially available only in English, and that limit applied to the new Siri AI experience specifically. Apple’s newsroom post lists 16 Siri and device languages that Apple Intelligence supports, though Apple notes some features may not be available in every language or region.

Who this affects

To use Siri AI in iOS 27.2, all of these must be true:

  • Your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence. That means an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 or later. The standard iPhone 15 and older models don’t qualify.
  • You’re running iOS 27.2 or later. Siri AI itself works on iOS 27 or later, but the five new languages added this week specifically require iOS 27.2.
  • Your Siri and device language are supported. Apple requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language. For Siri AI, that’s English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, or Spanish.
  • Apple Intelligence is turned on. Make sure it’s enabled on your qualifying iPhone.
  • You’re not affected by the EU or mainland China restrictions. Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. That wording names those three platforms only, so it covers the iPhone but not every Apple device. Apple also says Apple Intelligence features aren’t available in China while regulatory requirements are addressed (AppleInsider).

On the EU and China question, our sources confirm Siri AI is unavailable in the EU and that Apple Intelligence features are unavailable in China. They don’t explain why in detail, so we won’t guess. Apple hasn’t announced a timeline for either case.

Price and status

Siri AI costs nothing extra. It’s built into iOS with no subscription, as long as your iPhone qualifies. Apple still labels it a beta feature in iOS 27.2. Expect its behavior and reliability to keep changing in future updates.

How It Stacks Up

Against the previous Apple version

The cleanest comparison is Siri AI before and after this update:

That takes Siri AI itself from one language to six since its September launch. If Apple’s plan holds, Siri AI could reach ten languages by the end of the year.

Against Android and Windows

Maybe you’re coming from a Google Pixel (Gemini/Google Assistant), a Samsung Galaxy (Bixby/Galaxy AI), or a Windows PC with Microsoft Copilot. You’ll want to know how those assistants compare on language coverage. We looked. None of our sources had a verified, side-by-side comparison of language support, rollout timing, or performance against Siri AI’s October update.

So we won’t hand you a made-up scorecard. A few things are still useful to know:

  • Apple’s language list is still short and growing in stages. Six shipped, four promised, and iPhone users in the EU and mainland China left out for now.
  • Before switching platforms over this, check the other assistant’s support pages for your language and country. Then compare that with the table above.

The Reaction

Reaction is still forming, and there isn’t enough public discussion of the language expansion to summarize yet.

Our Take

Verdict: A meaningful step for Apple, but still a rollout in progress.

Measured against Apple’s own September 2026 platform launch, iOS 27.2 is clearly better. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish speakers with a recent iPhone can now use Siri AI in their own language. That matters. An assistant built around your messages, emails, and photos isn’t much help if it can’t understand the language you write and speak in.

Is Apple ahead of the competition, or behind? We can’t answer that honestly. Our sources don’t include verified comparison data for Google, Samsung, or Microsoft. What is clear is that Siri AI is still incomplete in three ways:

  • It’s still in beta. Apple says so itself.
  • Four languages are only planned. Apple says “by the end of the year,” but hasn’t given a specific date.
  • Two large regions are left out on iPhone. Apple says Siri AI is unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and Apple Intelligence features including Siri AI aren’t available in mainland China.

Should you upgrade?

  • Yes, update to iOS 27.2 if you own an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 or later, aren’t affected by the EU or China restrictions, and have Siri and your device set to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, or Spanish. This is the update you’ve been waiting for.
  • It’s a routine update if you already use Siri AI in English. You’ll get the stated refinements, but nothing dramatic.
  • Don’t buy a new iPhone just for this if your language is still on the “coming later” list, or if you’re subject to the EU or China restrictions. Wait until Apple actually ships support where you live. If you’re already shopping, though, a qualifying model like the iPhone 16 or later gets you ready for whenever it arrives.

What to do next

On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 27.2. This step alone only unlocks Siri AI if your device is an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, or later, and you’re not affected by the EU or China availability restrictions.

Then open Siri’s settings in the Settings app. Check that Siri’s Language option and your iPhone’s device language are both set to one of the six supported languages, and make sure Apple Intelligence is turned on. If Siri AI still doesn’t show up, double-check your device model, Siri and device language, and region, since each of these can block the feature independently. We also couldn’t confirm whether the four upcoming languages can be unlocked early through beta software, so it’s safest to wait for Apple’s official rollout.

Wrapping Up

iOS 27.2 finally gives Siri AI to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish speakers, as long as you have a qualifying iPhone and aren’t affected by the EU or China availability restrictions. Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese are next, with Apple targeting the end of the year. It’s solid progress. Still, Siri AI is a beta that’s rolling out in stages, so keep your expectations in line with that.
