It requires no additional software
Keeping your music organized by genre in iTunes can be an easy way to find the current song you would like to listen to. Unfortunately, Apple has forgotten to add a few genres to the iTunes application. In this tutorial we will be showing you how to add custom genres to your music in iTunes. This tutorial does not require any additional software.
Adding New Genres To iTunes
1. Open iTunes by launching it from your dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.
2. Select a song that you would like to change the genre of. When you select the song, press these two buttons: ⌘-I. When you do this a popup window will appear. Look at the top of the window, you will see a row of tabs. Click on “Info” tab.
3. Look towards the bottom of the window. You will see a heading labeled “Genre”. Below this heading you will see the currently selected genre. If you would like to create a custom heading click on the button that is located next to the currently selected genre. This button looks like two triangles that are pointing away from each other.
4. When you click on this button, a drop down menu will appear. If you look towards the top of the menu you will see an option labeled “Custom”. When you click on this option you will be able to type in a custom genre that you will be able to use with other songs as well as the currently selected song.
