Apple Time Machine & Airport Update Now Supports AirDisk Time Machine

March 19th, 2008 by Mike

Airport Extreme AirDisk

I believe there where a lot of smiles on the faces of Apple Airport Extreme owners who have been counting or should I say waiting on Apple to come through with a fix for the Time Machine support of Airport Extreme AirDisk drives.

All I can say is a big thanks goes out to Apple, right now two Mac Laptops in my home are happily backing up to my 1TB AirDisk drive connected to my Apple Airport Extreme. Once they are finished I will be backing up my main Mac to it as well.

You can update your Airport Firmware via Software Update or download it from here.

Apple updates Airport software

March 29th, 2007 by John

Airport Extreme Base StationI was just mentioning in the forums about a minor issue I’ve been having with my Airport Extreme base station and then I see that Apple has posted an update for the software you use to connect/configure it with. Unfortunately there isn’t a firmware update but the problem may actually be with the Airdisk software on my Macs that has been updated.

What’s New in this Version
The AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications:

- AirPort Utility
- AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations
- AirPort Disk Utility
- AirPort Disk Agent

Note: Only previously installed software from the list above will be updated. AirPort Utility v5.1 for Mac OS X 10.4.x or later software supports the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n, AirPort Extreme Base Station and AirPort Express Base Station.

You can grab the update via Software Update or on Apple’s site.

I just installed it so I’ll have to wait and see if it there are any hiccups. You can read my full review here.

Airport Extreme Base Station

Airport Extreme Base Station

Warning: The following review may be a little technical for our average site visitor. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt a bit.

I’ve had Apple’s new Airport Extreme Base Station now for almost a week and have been able to try out most of it’s features.

Let me start this off by saying that I don’t currently have any 802.11n capable wireless devices….my home network currently consists of an iMac Core Duo (wired but has 802.11g wireless only), a PowerMac (wired), a couple of boring PC’s, and a 12″ Powerbook. I also have a Nintendo Wii and a DS Lite which uses the wireless to connect to the internet.

Apple’s new Airport Extreme Base Station

February 13th, 2007 by John

Airport Extreme Base Station

I just received Apple’s new Airport Extreme Base Station today. I wanted to get one to replace my Linksys router for two reasons:

  1. the Linksys has a habit of flaking out on occasion…usually while I’m playing an online game and it just disconnects me
  2. and the new base station has a USB port to enable you to plug an external drive into it and all the network users can then access the drive without having to have a computer on

The setup so far was pretty easy. I’ll have a more indepth review this weekend once I’ve had a chance to put it through it’s paces.

Apple Airport Express

February 20th, 2006 by Mike

Airport Express

What is an Airport Express?
No it’s not a fast line at the Airport check-in! An Airport Express is Apple’s solution to a Portable Wireless Router and is about the size of a Laptop power adapter with the ability to supply 10 devices with Wireless Connectivity, but is that all it does? No way!
