So, that’s sixteen hundred bucks to have a [really] cool phone. Let’s see, I think maybe 5 or 6 people have called me on my cell phone. (Not in total, it’s just the same people always call me!) I can afford this fancy phone, I can. But, you gotta be kidding me! Read the rest of this entry »
It’s been just a bit over a month since I last sat down and tried to write something for Mike. Been busy, been lazy. You know how it goes. Had some good things happen and some bad things happen, but so far nothing terrible – nobody’s died or anything like that. There’s been some drama, but nothing that ruined the show. Sorry I haven’t been writing. I’ve missed it, so here I am… Now the question is do I have anything to say?
I’ve been thinking a lot about Apple and the Mac, kind of daydreaming. The Apple WWDC (“World Wide Developers Conference”) happened. It was cool to see old Steve up there his soapbox hawking his brand of miracle medicine, but since I am neither a developer nor a member of the press it wasn’t very exciting for me. Besides, since I’m not in the business of Apple computers why should I bother to think about it at all? Read the rest of this entry »
Today I spent 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back but the bright side is I rarely get the chance to experience the dark side of owning a Windows PC and so now I guess I can relate just a little more to some of you Switchers out there.
It all started with my Mother-In-Law handing me her Windows PC computer and saying “what does this mean” and yes this question is a regular occurrence. Now this time it was more then a just the regular “have you tried restarting it” or “did you turned your WiFi off again” or my personal favorite… “is your power adapter still plugged into the wall”. This time it was something dark and evil! Her Internet Explorer had been hijacked and it wasn’t letting go without a fight. It was kinda obvious she had been hijacked when her IE start page was now a Website that was trying to sell her Spyware and Antivirus software while at the same time her computer was displaying how many umpteen viruses threats, spyware programs and system crippling processes she had on her Windows XP laptop. Take a look at Apple’s latest iPhone guided tour video and I think just about anyone with a bit of techie in them will empty their bank account for one. Wow Apple - you nailed it!!
If you’re making the switch from PC to Mac then one thing is for sure, you’re going to need to move your PC Files and Documents over to your new Mac at some point. The good news is that in almost all cases the same files that work with you PC programs will usually work with the Mac equivalent Applications.
The most common files switchers want to move to the Mac are files like:
Pictures - JPG - GIF - TIFF - BMP
Music - MP3 - WAV - WMA - AAC
Video - MOV - AVI - DivX - Xvid
Office - DOC - XLS - PPT
Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can move your PC files over to a Mac:
Jump Drives
Probably one of the easiest transfer methods is to use a Jump or Flash Drive. These are basically small memory cards with USB based connectors, they come in varying memory sizes and go right up-to 4GB. A 4GB Jump Drive is probably not going to be big enough to store all your data at one time but most of these drives come in USB 2.0 making loading and unloading them fast and simple. Another nice feature of Jump Drives is the fact that they are usually formatted to be compatible with both PC and Mac making them read and write capable on either one. Even if you have to buy a Flash Drive for this purpose it will come in handy down the road for future transfers. Read the rest of this entry »
USA Today claims based on their research that Apple is now up-to 7.6% computer market-share based on home computers statistics. This is a drastic increase in at-home computer market-share from 3.2% only a few years ago!
Some more interesting non-computer but also Apple related findings:
Apple 2006 revenue = $24 billion
iPods sold to date = 100 million
Songs sold on iTunes = 2.5 billion.
I guess you could say Apple is making a definite impact.
Well it’s a bit tough for someone like me (Switching to Mac Website operator) to be impartial regarding the whole Mac vs PC debate or at-least this is what I have been told on more then a few occasions… I came across a nice Article on the subject over at VistaSucks and granted it may not be completely impartial but the author does make the attempt to be unbiased on the matter and yes he is a current PC user to boot!
I particularly liked this statement in his Article:
“You may not be able to make a horse drink water, but odds are… if you’re patient, and enough other horses are drinking, that horse will eventually want to join them.”
Funny Mac or PC Rap style video. If you have 4 minutes and 14 seconds to kill then watch it, just don’t expect any educational value with this one and sorry I can’t give your time back - you’ve been warned!
