Taking screenshots of the iPhone
February 20, 2009 by Sukrit Dhandhania
There are a number of ways you can take a screenshot on your Mac or Window PC. Ever wondered how people who write about iphone applications get screenshots? And if you thought it was using a camera, let me clear that doubt. The iPhone comes with a hidden screenshot feature. This method only works for iPhones which have the 2.0 firmware or better.
To take a screenshot press the Home button (the button at the bottom of the front face of the iPhone) while also pressing the Power button (at the top of the phone). Click both buttons simultaneously and you will see a white light flash on your screen and hear a the sound of a click. This means that your screenshot was taken successfully.
The screenshot image is automatically placed in under the Photos application on your iPhone. To check it out click on the Photos icon and and navigate to the photo album called Camera Roll. Your screenshots should be here.
There are a number of ways by which you can export the screenshots. When you sync you iPhone to your Mac or PC using iTunes the images should get synced, usually to iPhoto if you’re using OS X. The way I usually like to export my images is by mailing them to myself. If you have your email setup on your iPhone open the screenshot you want to export using the Photos application. Click anywhere on your screen and a menu will appear. Click on the icon at the bottom left. This will give you three options. Select the Email Photo option here. The Mail application will then launch and you can enter your email address and have the screenshot in your mailbox in no time.
