Pimp out Mac Wallpapers with Desktopia
March 16, 2009 by Sukrit Dhandhania
Desktoptopia is a program that downloads and rotates wallpapers. It ships with a fine collection of wallpapers that you can either manually rotate or you can set an interval after which Desktopia will automatically switch to a new wallpaper. Desktopia is a freely available.
To get started head over to the Desktoptopia website and download the latest release. Once the download completes double click on the file Desktopia.prefPane to begin installation.
The System Preferences will now launch and it will ask you to choose if you want to install this application only for the user you are logged in as or you want to make it accessible to all users on the machine. Take a pick. I went with the option Install for this user only as mine is the only user on this laptop.
Once you decide which mode of installation you want to go with hit Install. If you chose the option Install for all users on this computer you will be asked to enter your password. Your installation should now be complete and you should see a preference pane like in the image below.
Desktopia is now ready for use. You can make some configuration changes in the Preferences pane. Set the interval of time between wallpaper rotations if you want it done automatically. Once you are done playing with the configuration options click the button Start Desktopia to get your first wallpaper. If you checked the option Show Desktopia in menu bar in the Preferences pane you will an icon in the menu bar at the top of you screen. This is useful to manually rotate wallpapers.
