Default Actions For Blank Media
If you are an avid DVD or CD burner, you may know that your Mac can burn media from many applications. In this tutorial we will be showing you how to tell your Mac which application to open when you insert a blank CD or DVD. This tutorial does not require any additional software.
1. Open System Preferences by launching it from your dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.

2. Look under the “Hardware” heading. Directly under this heading you will see an option labeled “CDs & DVDs”. Click on this.

3. Look towards the top of the window, you will see two options labeled “When you insert a blank CD:” and “When you insert a blank DVD:”. To the right of these two options you will see two drop down menus. From these two menus you can select the default applications that you would like to open when you insert a blank DVD or CD. You can even tell your Mac to run a script when a disk is inserted into your Combo Drive or Super Drive.

Default Actions For Media Disks
If you are often watching movies or listening to CDs on your Mac, you may want to change your Mac’s default DVD or CD player. You might want to do this if you use a third party DVD or CD player on your Macintosh.
1. Open System Preferences by launching it from your dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.

2. Look under the “Hardware” heading. Directly under this heading you will see an option labeled “CDs & DVDs”. Click on this.

3. Now look towards the bottom of the window. You will three options labeled “When you insert a music CD:”, “When you insert a picture CD:” and “When you insert a video DVD:”. To the right of these three options you will see three drop down menus. Click on these menus to choose the default action that you would like your Mac to take when the selected media is inserted into your Combo Drive or Super Drive.
