Your Mac’s alert sounds can tell you a number of things. Some of these things include error messages and notifications. If you don’t like your current alert sound, you can change it via System Preferences.
In this quick tutorial we will be showing you how to change your Mac’s alert noises. This tutorial does not require any additional software.
Changing Your Mac’s Alert Sounds
1. Open System Preferences by launching it from your dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.

2. Look under the Hardware heading. Under this heading you will see eight different options. Click on the Sound option.

3. Look towards the top of the Sound window. You will see a row of tabs. Make sure that you are in the Sound Effects tab.

4. Look towards the center of the window, you will see a heading labeled “Select an alert sound:”. Under this heading you will see a list of sounds. To select a new alert noise, simply click on the sound of your choice.
