If you have recently setup a new account on your Mac and would like to change the account’s privileges, read on. In this tutorial we will be showing you how to change a user account type. When you change an account’s type it’s privileges will also change. This tutorial does not require any additional software.
Changing An Account Type
1. Open System Preferences by launching it from your dock or by searching for it in Spotlight.

2. Look under the “System” heading. Directly under this heading you will see an option labeled “Accounts”. Click on this option.

3. Looks towards the bottom lefthand corner of the screen. You will see a lock. Click on this lock to unlock the account preferences.

4. Now, look towards the lefthand side of the window. You will see a sidebar. In this sidebar you will see all of you user accounts. To switch the account type, simply select the account that you would like to modify. Once you have selected the account, look towards the center of the window.
You will see an option labeled “Allow this user to administer this computer”. When you select this the selected account will be an administrator account. When this setting is deselected, the account will be a standard account.
