When using the Mail application, you can create To Do’s and Reminders directly from a mail message. Any text can be made into a To Do, and any date or time written in the email can be added to your iCal.
Open the Mail application by clicking its icon in the Dock or Application Folder.

Click on an email in the message list to open it in the preview window below.

Locate text in the email that you would like to make a new To Do. Click and drag the mouse over the text to highlight it.

CTRL + click on the text to bring up a contextual menu. Select New To Do.

The To Do window will appear directly above the email message. Here the new title of the To Do can be edited and a check box will appear to mark completion of the task. To edit details, click on the arrow next to the title.

In the details pop-up, you can set the due date, priority, alarm and even add it to an iCal Calendar. Just click away from the window to close it.

Any To Do’s you create will appear int he left-hand column under the Reminders section.
