On May 25th 2012, Chronic Dev Team as well as the iPhone Dev Team have released Absinthe 2.0. This tool allows iOS 5.1.1 users to jailbreak any iOS device, excluding the 2012 iPad 2 ($399). This is the first jailbreak tool released for the new iPad.
Disclosure: Switching To Mac and it’s authors do not condone jailbreaking and are not responsible if you mess up, break or brick your computer, iOS device or other piece of electronic equipment during the jailbreak process.
Jailbreaking iOS 5.1.1 – Mac OS X
Using Absinthe is pretty simple. You can download the tool for free by heading to this post on the Green Poison blog.
The download links are located at the bottom of the post. Once the download is complete, simply drag and drop Absinthe 2.0 into your Applications folder.
Now that you’ve installed Absinthe, launch it on your Mac. Once it has completely launched, plug your compatible iOS device into your computer and press the Jailbreak button. This button is located towards the righthand side of the Absinthe window. Your iOS device will now start the jailbreak process which should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
And that’s it, you should now have a fully functioning, jailbroken iOS device. You can now install tweaks and applications from the Cydia Store which has been installed on your device during the jailbreak process.
