When making the switch from Windows 7 to Mac OS, there will be a couple of features that will be missed. Two of the most popular features that were introduced in Windows 7, and that Windows 7 got right, are the Snap Feature and the Taskbar Previews feature. While these features are not included in Mac OS X, and Apple has no alternative to them, they can both be added to your Mac via an App that has received near perfect reviews.

There are a couple of apps that can add Windows features to Mac but the two most popular are HyperDock and DockView. For this tutorial, we will be using HyperDock. To get started, navigate over to the HyperDock homepage and download the latest version. You may notice that HyperDock is not free ($10), but it is affordable and you can demo the software before buying, so downloading is fine.

Once HyperDock finishes downloading, double click the downloaded installer file to start installing HyperDock on your Mac. The HyperDock installer is about as minimal and simplistic as it gets… Double click to install HyperDock!

HyperDock Install

The HyperDock preferences pane needs to be added to the Preferences section in OS X, so that you can tweak HyperDock settings. Click the Install button to proceed to install the HyperDock settings pane. You will also likely want to select Install for this user only.

You will also need to enable assistive devices for HyperDock. Click the Enable button to continue.

That’s it for HyperDock install. HyperDock should automatically start working, nearly identical to the way Windows Snap and Taskbar Previews works. Whenever you hover over an active app in the dock, HyperDock will present a preview of the open windows for that according application. Also, whenever you drag a window to the left or right side of the screen, the snap feature will take action. You can also drag a window towards the top of the screen to maximize.

HyperDock Taskbar Previews

During HyperDock installation we had to add a pane to the Preferences section in Mac OS X. Now, you can adjust specific settings for HyperDock using the System Preferences pane. HyperDock is a quality app that has received countless positive reviews. Download it and try it before buying to determine if it is a good app for you. Any questions?
