With the release of Mac OS X Lion, Apple has changed up the dashboard feature to be more useable, in order to promote it to Mac users. There are a limited amount of Dashboard widgets available for Mac OS X, but within those few, lay a couple of gems. In today’s post, we will review a dashboard widget that enables you to monitor all vital stats about your Mac computer.
The widget iStatPro by iSlayer is a Mac OS X monitoring widget that can quickly calculate anything from amount of free space on the hard drive to internal CPU temperatures. To get the widget, navigate to iSlayer’s website and download the widget to your Mac. iStatPro is one of iSlayer’s free widgets, so there is no cost to download.
Upon successful download of iStatPro, proceed to install it onto your computer. You will need to unarchive the download by double clicking on it. From there, the iStatPro icon should appear on your Mac. Double click the file to install the dashboard widget.
Mac OS X will prompt you with an alert, asking you if you want to Keep or Delete the widget. Click the Keep button to begin using iStatPro.
From here, the widget should be fully installed, and it should immediately begin monitoring your Mac computer’s stats. You can customize iStatPro by clicking on the i button.
That’s really all there is to it with iStatPro. Although it is almost overly simple, this widget can be a time saver and a great Dashboard utility to have. One of the best features of iStatPro is the temperature monitoring. However, the other features are pretty cool also. Now, you don’t have to open up utilities like Activity Monitor or About This Mac to view info about your Mac. Simply flip over to the Dashboard, and your customized iStatPro widget can display all of this info in one spot.
