Lounge - Yet another Twitter client for the Mac

April 27, 2009 by Sukrit Dhandhania

Lounge is yet another Twitter client for the Mac. It’s from the folks at Goose Apps. Although it’s still in beta version it looks like a very promising Twitter application. The user interface is quite different from any other Twitter application I’ve used before and it take a bit to get used to. However, once I got comfortable with the application the user interface started feeling good too.

To get going with Lounge download the application from it’s website. Click on the download link and wait for your web browser to download the installer. Once downloaded the zip file should extract automatically. Drag and drop it into your Mac’s Applications folder. Your installation is now complete. Double click on the Lounge icon in your Applications folder to launch it.

You will be welcomed by a login screen like in the image above. Assuming you already have an account with Twitter enter your username and your password. If you don’t have an account sign up at the Twitter website.

The first thing that struck me when I looked around the features of Lounge was just how complete a Twitter application it is. It can do just about everything that I want to do using Twitter. If you look at the left column of the application you will see a whole lot of tabs. These tabs allow you to search through the public time of Tweets, look at your favorite Tweets, go through your friends list, and so on. The feature I found quite innovative was the tab aptly titled Vanity. If you click on this tab you will be able to see any Tweets where your Twitter username is mentioned.

Like every good Twitter client out there Lounge supports multiple Twitter accounts. To activate a new account click on your username at the top left corner of the Lounge window. You will see a drop down menu with the option Add account in it. Click on it to add your account. Enter your account details and then click on Log in.

Another nice feature of Lounge is that it automatically plugs into Growl notifications if you have it installed. This way you don’t have to keep checking the application for updates. All in all Lounge appears to be packed with features and is definitely an application to keep on your radar. As it is still in beta mode there might be stability issues. However, once they release a stable version I see a lot of users adopting it.
