iPhone App Review: Pocket God
March 19, 2009 by Sukrit Dhandhania
Pocket God costing just $0.99 is a very cool iPhone and/or iPod Touch application which allows you to play God on an island.
Developed by the folks at Bolt Creative Pocket God is a game that consists of a bunch of weird looking creatures, probably pygmies, who live on an island. You get to play God with these fellas. You can put them to sleep, you can allow them to simply exist without disturbing (hey, where’s the fun in that), or you can use a number of ways to kill them.
You can throw the creatures into a volcano by flicking them over, or you can create an earthquake, or a lightning bolt. You can switch from day to night if you like. You can be nice to these fellows and feed them coconuts if you are in a generous mood, or you can drop a coconut on a creature’s head to split him into two.
The application provides a great deal of documentation on what you can do. I would most definitely recommend going through it. You can also visit the application’s official website/blog. There’s a couple of nice videos there which you should check out.
Other than being great fun for hours together, Pocket God is one of the applications that appears to take full advantage of some of the iPhone’s features which are great for gaming - things like a great touch screen interface. I can’t wait till the developers integrate multiplayer mode over the Internet.
* Note that to install Pocket God on your iPhone you need to be on the v2.2 of the iPhone firmware.
