If you love your iPad, but want to add some extra protection and function to your tablet, read on! In this article we will be reviewing an iPad case which does just that. This case goes by the name ‘Alumni’ and is manufactured by Cygnett, a respected name in the iOS accessory industry. In this article I will be giving you my full thoughts on this case and whether or not I think I think it’s worth the asking price of $49.99.
To start, the Alumni case is a folio style case which is compatible with the new iPad and iPad 2. This means that the case constantly covers the back of your iPad and covers the front of your iPad when the case is closed. This case is made out of a faux leather and cloth material. While this may not sound great on paper, the case feels high quality and is extremely comfortable to hold for long periods of time. After using the case for about two weeks, I have found the case to hold up very well and not fray or rip at the seams like most folio cases tend to do.
The Alumni case also features a magnetic enclosure. Not only does this keep the case closed, it also wakes up and puts the iPad to sleep when opened and closed by utilizing Apple’s Smart Cover technology.
While the Alumni case doesn’t offer a stand functionality like most folio cases do, it brings one very unique feature to the table: a document pocket. This pocket allows you to store papers, money and other documents in the front cover of the Alumni case. I find this very helpful when taking my iPad to class as it allows me to keep handouts in my iPad’s sleeve for easy access.
The only thing I don’t like about the Alumni case is its color selection. The Alumni case comes in four different colors: black, jade, light blue and pink. None of these colors appealed too highly to me although I was given the jade model. I wish that the Alumni case was available in more dark colors.
All in all, I think the Cygnett Alumni case is perfect for anyone who wants a basic folio style case for his or her new iPad or iPad 2. While the price may seem a bit steep at $49.99, you’re paying for a very high quality case which will last you quite a while. Before I end this review, I would like to thank Cygnett for sending this case out for review.
