OpenArena 0.8.1 released
November 1, 2008 by Ross McKillop
OpenArena, the cross-platform (and free) first person shooter, has recently updated to version 0.8.1.
OpenArena is “a violent, sexy, multiplayer first person shooter based on the ioquake3 fork of the id tech 3 engine. It has many game types beyond deathmatch and a lot of characters. Due to violent and racy content, it may not be suitable for children under 17.”
The updates in 0.8.1 include:
- Uses protocol 71
- Single player campaign re-organized (Thanks cosmo)
- ‘Depreciated’ client for Windows 9X in addition (lacks ipv6 support)
- New hitsound
- New map: ps37ctf
- New map: ctf_gate1
- New map: am_galevish
- Space Marine should no longer crash on old client
- Chaingun works in unlagged now
- non-Free texture folders from previous release removed (this also removes the schism and q3dm6ish-v2 map)
If you’re a player, perhaps we could arrange a game. For what it’s worth, you WILL beat me, as I suck just as much as I enjoy it ![]()
