When digital picture frames first came out, it’s believed that every parent and grandparent received one as a gift that holiday season. Since then, their popularity has slowed and more people use their mobile devices to share pictures anyway. While the iPad is far more than a digital picture frame, it’s one of the many things the iPad does very well. Using your iPad as a photo frame is probably best complimented with the iPad dock.

Tap on the Settings application on your home screen to configure the photo frame function.

iPad Settings

On the left hand side you will see a column of applications. Select Picture Frame by tapping on it.

Picture Frame

On the right-hand side of the screen, the Picture Frame preferences will appear.  You can decide how pictures will rotate, either fading into each other with Dissolve, or appearing as folding paper with the Origami setting. Choose the amount of time each photo will be displayed, choose to shuffle the order of pictures, and select whether to display certain Albums, Events, or all the photos on your iPad. When you’re finished, return to the home screen by tapping the physical Home Button on your iPad.

Picture Frame Preferences

Lock your screen by tapping the Sleep/Wake button on the top edge of the iPad. Press it again and you’ll be brought to the lock screen. Rather than Slide to Unlock your device, tap on the Picture Frame logo next to the slider.

Photo Frame Button

This wil launch Picture Frame mode and your photos will begin to rotate automatically. To stop the slideshow, tap the physical Home button again. Here is an example of what photos look like in Picture Frame mode.
