Netflix to bring ‘Watch Instantly’ to Macs
October 26, 2008 by Ross McKillop
According to Engadget, Netflix will finally allow Macs to stream some 12,000 movies and TV shows via their “Watch Instantly” service in the not too distant future. The irony wasn’t missed by all - this is in large part due to the Microsoft technology “Sliverlight”.
As a Canadian, I won’t be able to report much in terms of quality or experience, but if/once it happens, I’d be very curious to hear from my American friends what the service is like.

I checked my Netflix account this morning and no change. I’m curious how long it will take them to roll it out…
This is great news though. It was becoming a pain to watch instant movies using VMWare Fusion to load Windows IE. I hope they also fix the Firefox compatibility
Well, they now have an opt-in for the new beta Netfilx viewer.
I tried it and it works GREAT so far on my intel macbook
Ok, well…. after viewing some movies it looks like there are a few issues to be ironed out. There are some movies that have problems with audio/video sync. I watched The Day the Earth Stood Still and it took about 10 minutes for the audio to be off by about 5 seconds.
The other thing is sometimes it get’s locked into a lower quality setting, regardless of your connection speed.
All in all it’s not bad for a beta.
