Microsoft introduces Live Mesh for Mac

November 26, 2008 by Ross McKillop

Microsoft has recently introduced Live Mesh for Mac. For those of you not familiar w/ the Microsoft Live Mesh product, here’s how MS describes it:

Live Mesh puts you at the center of your digital world, seamlessly connecting you to the people, devices, programs, and information you care about—wherever you happen to be.

  • Have your devices work together. Add a device to your mesh by installing the Live Mesh software on your PC or your Mac so you can easily synchronize the information you need, making the most up-to-date versions of your files available on any of your devices.
  • Access your information anywhere. Any information you put in your mesh is available from any of the devices in your mesh, including your Live Desktop. You can store up to 5 GB of files and folders on your Live Desktop, then access and share them from most web browsers. You can also use Live Mesh Remote Desktop to connect to a computer in your mesh to access files or programs.
  • Add and share folders. You’re here. Your colleague is there. But Live Mesh makes it almost as easy as if you were collaborating in the same office. Folders in your mesh are available from your Live Desktop and can be synchronized with all of your devices. Share folders with family and friends, or keep them private.
  • Stay informed. With Live Mesh news, you can get quick access to the latest updates across your mesh. In shared folders, see who’s changed what, and when. Post messages, or chat instantly with others in a folder.
  • So far I haven’t found any bugs (tho I’ve only been using it for an hour or so) and the uploads go pretty quickly. Note: you’ll need a Microsoft Live ID to sign up for the service.

Did you get that to work on your Mac? I only see a page with some text. Then I can click on a link that redirect to mesh.com where I logged in with my hotmail account. Then I tried to click on Add Device and it redirects me to this url: https://www.mesh.comlivemesh.exe/ - which doesn’t load :(

      Alex -

Yes, I did get it to work. You have to go to the “Add a device” screen, select Mac, then you may have to refresh the page to see the “Requires OS X 10.5.1 or greater” prompt, but then you can download it. It does work on my Mac.
