Apple and I agree, say No to Prop 8
November 1, 2008 by Ross McKillop
Switching To Mac will remain, by and large, a political-free site. But there comes a time when I feel the need to speak out and support certain efforts. Voting No on Prop 8 is one of them.
I have a number of friends in same-sex marriages, and I firmly believe that they deserve to have every single benefit and right as any married couple. And it turns out, Apple agrees with me. They recently issued the following statement:
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.
You can make a difference. Please consider making a donation here or here to help defeat a backwards bill that will reverse an already decided law in California.
