One of the many great features of the Firefox web browser is the keyword search which allows you to direct a search to a search engine by using a preset keyword and a query in the url box of your browser. So you can type something like imbd there’s something about mary in the search box and the search query will be directly sent to www.imdb.com. Safari does not yet support this feature out of the box. One of the big features that came with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is Spaces. Spaces is a tool that allows you to create multiple virtual workspaces. It’s like having multiple screens for your applications to run and you can switch easily between these screens to access different applications. This way all your application windows don’t have to be crammed into one screen. It’s quite useful once you get the hang of it. I’m a big fan of Quicksilver, the versatile application launcher for the Mac. I recently decide to try out Google Desktop for the Mac which is a product similar to Quicksilver and Spotlight. And I was quite impressed. Here’s a complete list of features. The feature that really impressed me was the integration with the web browser. Now, whenever I run a Google search I also get results from my local machine on my browser. Google Desktop searches through my mails and my web history as well. I find that useful. Read more
